History

Buck Steiner was a rodeo cowboy and a Hollywood stuntman. In the 1940s, he purchased 2700 acres at $25 an acre in Steiner Ranch. Making custom saddles and cowboy boots and selling them at Capitol Saddlery in downtown Austin paid off handsomely for him.  In the early 1980s, Steiner Ranch was still being operated as a cattle ranch but was later sold to real estate developer Al Hughes. Fast forward in time, the master-planned community of over 4600 acres was designed by home builder Tyler Woodrow, who strategically envisioned a first-class, resort-style community. More than 80 percent of the homes in Steiner Ranch were built after 2000. There are more than 6000 homes in 50 different subdivisions, with each having its own unique features and benefits.
